Bullies StoryBoard

For people visiting this blog and wondering what the Bullies-project is all about I publish this storyboard. It's been made about half a year ago and it will be the basis for the story. A lot of things have happened since then and the story has changed a little bit, mainly to keep focus on the event and get the story clear. The basic plot is unchanged. Maybe Ces can tell us more about 'what happened before it got into production again' ;)

The whole idea at this moment is to try to get a 30 second to 1 minute short out of it, which will be some kind of 'school-project'-short on how to produce animation. If we succeed, LunarCactus will have it's first animation and sort of business-card to help find money to produce larger projects. All comments are welcome and appreciated, since it's meant to be a project to learn from :)

  1. A nice simple premise. This stb is already quite nice...I'll be interested to see where it goes from here.

The only point that I feel is a little unclear here is the moment where the bullies reveal their new haircuts. I have a feeling you guys are already way past this...but anyway. A simple connection from the hairy alien to the new haircuts would do the trick. Have us see that the bullies place the full set of hair of the alien on top of their skulls. They can style it totally crazy once the connection is made, but cutting cold to the styled hair mode is too far a bridge. Just a thought. :)

  2. Yes, we had the same feeling and were discussing a transition too. Some pill their ship produces and they take. Something going through a tube to their helmets... you know, get all the corkey stuff out of the way to get to a solution.
It has my attention for sure, but to be honest I tackle the problem when I get there.

First things first, I'm not in a hurry.

Since I have a VJ who already want's to use 'clips' for his club-nights and since 'disco' is a theme here, I think you like the idea of me checking all the DaftPunk live-sets at the moment. The design will definitely alter from this too :)

  3. In my first storyboard I had a control panel where the bullies could choose from a selection of wild hairdos, that as M-Jay suggests may connect to their helmets...:-)

  4. I'm almost there Ces, but your suggestion means a new shot of the panel. And taking some time to have the audience read the 'hair-choices'. Maybe even an extra shot to root the panel in the dashboard (now DJ-equipment :). I'm not sure if that fit's the pace I'm desperately trying to keep. 30 sec's is devilish in choices to make.

  5. Fresh eyed to this project and doing a 'cold read 'of the board, (and the one Maarten G. sent me) I find it impossible to grasp what the idea is that you are trying to communicate. Remember: first on the lists of requirements to communicate a story is CLARITY. You can draw like rings around the moon ( and you guys surely can) but if your audience doesn't know what is going on you fail as a storyteller and lose them. I'll try to be more specific in my reply to M.
